Coder Pricing Model

Coder charges based on compute hours:

Cost per Hour

Small workspace: $2.50/hour
- 2 CPU
- 4 GB RAM

Medium workspace: $5.00/hour
- 4 CPU
- 8 GB RAM

Large workspace: $10.00/hour
- 8 CPU
- 16 GB RAM

Only charged while running, not while stopped!

How Billing Works

Charging Starts

Timeline:
14:00 - Click Start
14:01 - Workspace Running
14:01 - CHARGING BEGINS ($0.08/minute for $5/hour workspace)

Cost accumulates:
14:02 - $0.17 so far
14:10 - $0.67 so far
14:30 - $2.50 so far (30 minutes)
15:00 - $5.00 so far (1 hour)

Charging Stops

15:00 - Click Stop
15:01 - Workspace Stopped
15:01 - CHARGING STOPS

Total charged: $5.00 for 1 hour

Not Charged When

✓ Workspace is Stopped (even if for days)
✓ Workspace is Deleted
✓ Workspace being Created (setup time free)
✓ Workspace being Stopped

You only pay:
- While workspace is in Running state
- You control this!

Right-size Your Workspace

Stop When Not Using

Developer works 8 hours/day

Scenario 1: Never stops
- 8 hours actual work
- 16 hours idle/stopped
- 24 hours × $5 = $120/day

Scenario 2: Auto-stop after 30 min
- 8 hours actual work (running)
- Small gaps: ~15 min/day overhead
- ~8.25 hours running
- 8.25 hours × $5 = $41.25/day (66% savings!)

Monthly: $120 × 20 days = $2,400
vs $41.25 × 20 days = $825

Share Workspaces

Option 1: Two developers, separate workspaces

Usage Alerts

Set Spending Limit

  1. Click Settings
  2. Click Coder Billing
  3. Set monthly budget:
    • Example: $500/month
  4. Choose alert level:
    • Warn at 75%: $375 spent
    • Warn at 90%: $450 spent

Alerts Trigger When

You get email when:
- Monthly cost reaches 75% of limit
- Monthly cost reaches 90% of limit
- Monthly limit exceeded

Example with $500 limit:
- $375 spent: "You're at 75% of budget"
- $450 spent: "You're at 90% of budget"
- $500 spent: "Budget exceeded"

Auto-limit Feature

Set hard limit (optional):

Hard limit: $500/month
If cost would exceed: New workspaces can't start
Existing ones keep running until limit hit
